Building Safer Families Programme

At the Healthy Relationships Awareness Centre, we know that the first steps into parenthood are both precious and challenging. The first 5 years of a child's life, from conception through their fifth birthday, lay the groundwork for lifelong wellbeing. During this critical window, investing in healthy relationship support can change the course of a child's future. Our Building Safer Families programme in Gloucestershire creates safer, stronger foundations for families to thrive.

The Impact of Early Experiences

Early experiences shape every area of a child's development. Positive relationships, responsive caregiving and secure environments build trust, confidence and resilience. In contrast, witnessing or experiencing harm during these first 5 years can affect brain development, attachment, health and even future behaviour. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in infancy are linked to lifelong mental health issues, difficulties with stress regulation and family relationship challenges. Our intervention prioritises timely support to prevent long-term disadvantages.
